Hockey Opens 2010 With 6-2 Home Loss To CCM Saturday Night

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Jan. 19, 2010) – The Maritime hockey team opened the 2010 portion of the season with a 6-2 loss to the County College of Morris Saturday night at the Parkwood Sports Complex in Great Neck, Long Island. The Privateers fall to 4-7 overall (3-7 MCHC), while CCM improves to 5-5-0-1 with the victory.

The Suffolk Stars carried a 2-0 lead into the first intermission, but Maritime answered just 36 seconds into the second period with a power play goal by freshman Dylan Tyx, cutting the CCM lead to 2-1. Tyx roofed a shot into the top shelf after picking up a rebound at the right circle. Junior Dylan O'Malley-Joyce and senior Alexander Leoutoakos picked up assists on that goal.

Morris added two more power play goals in the penalty-riddled second period to improve the lead to 4-1. The Privateers had a goal disallowed with one minute to play in the second due to a penalty called just before the puck was shot.

In the third, CCM scored two shorthanded goals to build its lead up to 6-1, and then Maritime added its own shorthanded goal on a 4-on-3 against with just 21 seconds to play in the game. Freshman James McManus found the back of the net after a 2-on-1 down low with classmate Sean Dougherty, who picked up an assist on the goal.
