THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Nov. 9, 2009) – The Maritime hockey team scored four unanswered goals Saturday night to defeat Suffolk County Community College, 5-4, at the Parkwood Sports Complex in Great Neck. With the win, the Privateers improve to an even 3-3 (2-3 intra-divisional), while Suffolk falls to 0-4.
Suffolk got on the board first less than three minutes into the opening period and then built up a 4-1 lead with six minutes left in the second. Maritime got three straight goals from sophomores Cullen Bozza, Steve Miller and Greg Dolan to tie it before freshman Daniel Tyx scored the game-winner at 7:37 of the third to give the Privateers the 5-4 advantage. Senior Matthew Franzek tallied Maritime’s first goal in the first period. Bozza also added two assists as did senior Alexander Leoutoakos.
In goal, freshman Matt Tatarian made 12 saves on 16 shots by Suffolk to earn his third win of the season.
The Privateers return to action on Saturday, Nov. 14, when the squad will travel to Montclair, N.J. to take on Stevens at the Clary Anderson Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m.
