THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 20, 2009) – In its first divisional game in the Metropolitan Collegiate Hockey Conference this season, Maritime lost to New Paltz, 2-1, on Friday, Oct. 16, at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. In defeat, the Privateers fall to 1-1 this season (0-1 in intra-divisional games), while the Hawks improve to 1-1.
New Paltz got on the board first with less than four minutes to play in the opening period on a goal by Kevin Ryan, but Maritime found the equalizer in the second, when freshman James McManus scored his first goal of the season.
The Hawks scored the game-winning goal with 1:40 remaining in regulation, when Rob Ward put one past Privateers’ goalie Matt Tatarian. Tatarian made 32 saves in the loss.
The Maritime hockey team returns to action this coming weekend, when they play back-to-back games against Fordham and the County College of Morris. The Privateers host the Rams on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 4:45 p.m. at the Parkwood Sports Complex in Great Neck, N.Y., before traveling to Morristown, N.J. to take on CCM at the Mennen Sports Arena on Sunday, Oct. 25, at 6:15 p.m.
